Introduction to the Exceptional Child (HB 671)

The Exceptional Child Course is a 50-hour, virtual, self-paced asynchronous course. The course is designed to facilitate the identification, curriculum modification, and instruction of exceptional children and includes the history, philosophy, and psychology of teaching disabled children as well as gifted children. It is a basic overview/survey of all areas and categories of special education and giftedness. It covers all aspects of requirements of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and satisfies the state requirement for a course in the Identification and Education of Exceptional Children by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and satisfies Georgia House Bill 671.

The Exceptional Child course is required for issuance of a certificate in any of the following:
  1. Teaching fields
  2. Leadership fields
  3. Service fields of Media Specialist
  4. Service fields of School Counseling

Textbook included in the cost of the course.

Participants will receive a Canvas invite to begin the training upon receipt of payment.

Course transcript will be submitted to GaPSC upon successful completion.
